SLCAers
A couple of last minute items!
We are so excited to have you join us for our retreat. This will be a great experience!
Some commonly asked questions:
* Do I need a sleeping bag? - No, the YMCA provides bedding.
*How do I get a hold of someone in the event of an emergency? -
The phone number to the YMCA is 800-777-9622
Carrie Adams- SCLA Program Coordinator cell phone number is:
303-330-7708 ( Cell coverage is spotty in Estes!)
* I will be picking up my son or daughter early- what is the address to the YMCA? 2515 Tunnel Road, Estes Park, CO 80511
* My son/daughter has a medical condition- who should I talk to? We will have a table to check in to share info with the SCLA teachers that will be attending.
* We are not getting these emails to the addresses we want them- will you add a new email address? We send all of our information via Infinite Campus. Students should get used to checking their SVVSD accounts, and parents will need to modify their contact info. We are unable to make changes. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
* Who is my child rooming with? The ambassadors made the room lists by putting students randomly in rooms. Students are expected to stay in the rooms they are assigned for safety reasons. Part of leadership is learning to adapt to unique situations. This is one night. Please be open to meeting new people regardless of who is in your room with you!
*Where else can I get info for SCLA?
Our blog is: http://sclaweekly.blogspot.com/
Our SCLA Website ( you can access from the SCHS website)

12th GRADE:
SCLA Juniors are busily working on their Senior Capstone Proposals. We will highlight these projects throughout the year for you to see what the seniors are up to.
11th GRADE:
SCLA 11 had a great overnight trip to Denver! A great cultural dinner at Mongolian BBQ, Enjoying the Rockies game, Team building on Segways, and a tour of the State Capitol while visiting with some of our elected officials. The students organized and planned this trip as a final prep for their senior capstone projects.
Senior Center Open House- 11th graders capped off their Senior
Center Mulch-Generational project by helping out at the Senior Center
Open House. We prepared food, served food, danced, mingled and visited
with Elvis. It was a great opportunity to mix and learn from the older
generation, and have them see teenagers through different eyes.
SPANGLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL UPDATE-
Thanks to everyone who helped make the Spangler Elementary school online auction a success. The Juniors did a great job putting together baskets for bidding and we were able to give Spangler a check for $1244.55. This money will help them tremendously with needed items. Thanks to PAYTON PETERSON for helping with the tech piece of the project.
10th GRADE:
Students have completed their respect projects and have presented to other classes. Two groups have been selected to present their projects to the Public Policy Committee at the Chamber of Commerce meeting in June. The students worked hard to bring issues to light to make SCHS a better school. GREAT JOB!
KIVA update: The Sophs have been busy working to raise money for KIVA. They will be helping fund small businesses in 3rd world countries to help people become self sufficient. KATRINA HUNT spearheaded several bake sales that raised almost $200. DOUG PALMER worked with EAGLECREST 5th graders having a penny war that raised $1099.22
Just one of the jugs of money from PENNY WARS |
10th graders are now working on their ETHICS projects. Digging deep to think about how leaders need to make ethical choices and how they personally operate as an ethical person. Good stuff!
9th GRADE:
Are you involved? Do you volunteer? Keep up to date and stay active in SCLA even when you are not in class! WE NEED YOU!!! Check out the volunteer opportunities and make a difference! Stop by and say hi to Ms Adams or Mrs Forbes and see what is going on!
INCOMING FRESHMEN:
The incoming 9th grade retreat is Wednesday and Thursday August 1&2nd. Make sure you have paid your $50 deposit or $80 total fee along with your t-shirt size before the end of school. You can drop it off or mail it to SCHS C/O Ms. Adams SCLA. If you need assistance scholarship money is available, please don't hesitate to ask. We don't want anyone to miss this event due to cost.
