Thank you SCLAers!

A big SHOUTOUT to Melissa Gambirasi for taking on the role of RABC Parent Rep.  Thanks to the many of you who replied with offers to help after I groveled and begged!   Thank you for your willingness to help, it takes a lot of hands to make SCLA successful.  THANK YOU!

Thank you to the great folks who helped at Friday's Homecoming football game in the concession stand.  We had a wonderful time melting in the tiny room and the lightning delay was quite the adventure!  If you missed  the fun, don't worry, another opportunity is coming up soon!

Every Friday we have Friday Forum during lunch- a chance to meet with members of the community and learn about their careers and academic path. 
 If you are interested in speaking during a Friday Forum sign up here! 
STUDENTS:
Come have lunch in the College and Career Center and visit with local leaders to learn more about your future choices.  On Friday, September 26th we welcome TODD GILES, a software developer with GOOGLE. Sign up for A or B lunch in the Counseling office. Space is limited!

SILVER CREEK LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 
THIS Saturday, September 27th from 9-4pm at SCHS

This summit will be conducted by JP Butler and the staff at Quantum Leadership and will be a great day of training, fun and activities.  You will receive a certificate after completing the summit making this a great addition to your college resume.  
$5 payable to SCHS

HERE COMES HOMECOMING!

Next week
is 
Homecoming week at Silver Creek!  



Join in the fun with spirit week:

 Do you make the best Chili in the west?  Now is your chance to prove it! Compete in the Homecoming Chili Cook Off on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th 6:30pm , right after the Powder Puff Football game. The competition will be held in the commons at SCHS.   Help SCLA raise funds for all of the clubs at SCHS.  

To compete: $25 per entry.  The more chili you make, the more votes you get!

To eat:  $5 tickets to come taste all the great chili and vote for your favorites!

Yea, it's a drag to work the concession stand during the homecoming football game, but we need to take our turn to earn needed money for SCLA and other groups with the Booster Club.  The more the merrier! ROTARY FOUR-WAY TEST 
Mr. Lathrop and Mr. DeFilippo's
freshmen SCLA classes spent time with local Rotarians learning the Four-Way test- giving them a good lesson on how leaders can make decisions.  Each student received a coin to remind them of their choices. 
 
 1. Is it the truth? 
2. Is it fair to all concerned? 
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Busy Raptors!


THANK YOU 
to those who joined in our ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!  We raised $1125 for ALS.

Our SCLA Pool Party was great fun! We had great food, and the rain stayed away long enough for us to enjoy the evening.  Being part of the SCLA family is a great thing.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
 FLAGSTAFF FALL FESTIVAL: Flagstaff Charter School is in need of assistance with their FALL FESTIVAL- Saturday, September 6th.  Slots from 4-5:15pm and 5:15-6:30pm. PLEASE HELP if you can! 


SALUD CLINIC /YMCA HEALTH FAIR: Volunteers needed to help at the YMCA Health Fair on Saturday, September 13th.  Volunteers needed from 11:30am-4:30pm.  

BOOSTER CLUB REP: Parent Volunteers needed to be our BOOSTER CLUB REP.  We are proud to be a part of RABC, they assist the school in many great ways.  We need a Booster Club Rep for SCLA to attend Monthly meetings and be our voice.  PLEASE consider helping us in this opportunity.  We need your help to continue to be a member of RABC!  Contact Carrie for more information.  THANK YOU! 

FOOTBALL CONCESSIONS:  We have two responsibilities coming up to help with concessions.  Parent and student helpers needed.  September 19th from 6:15-8:15pm and October 24th from 8pm to close.

Never a dull moment for SCLA!

It is never boring around SCLA!  Here's what's new!  


*Applications are closed for current 8th graders who wish to be in SCLA next year.  They may contact Ms. Adams directly to be placed on a waiting list.  

Silver Creek Leadership Summit 

SUMMIT HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED NEXT FALL.  




Applications are OPEN 
to apply to be an AMBASSADOR for 2014-2015!  

You may apply for ambassadors if you are a current 9th, 10th or 11th grader in good SCLA standing, and have a GPA 3.0 or over. 

This year you must have:
Online application 
Teacher recommendation form signed 
Prepare a two minute presentation on SCLA for the interview portion 

Important dates:  
Applications open March 7th 
Applications closed Friday, March 28st 
Interview/Presentation- April 8.9, and 10 after school
List posted- Friday, April 11 
First Ambassador meeting- Wed. April 16 6:30-8:30pm (Vote for officers, and prepare SCLA freshman induction evening)
SCLA Freshman Induction Ceremony- Tuesday, April 22,  6-7:30pm 
SCLA Freshman Retreat- YMCA at Winter Park- Aug. 6th and 7th.

SCLA 12 Capstone Project Updates: 

 Unity in the Community 
Maddie Toretto has been working with the Longmont Chamber of Commerce all year for her Capstone Project.  She helped organize Unity and it was a great success last night! The evening even included a Shoutout for SCLA from  Lt. Governor Joe Garcia!   Thank you for all of you who volunteered! 



CHINESE NEW YEAR  

Chinese New Year was a big success! Shout out to Alex Bush and Nico Rembert for all their hard work to help host this event.  Over 1300 people attended and a great time was had by all.

TERA CLUB
Taylor Strub, JP Butler and RaeAnn Pollard 

RaeAnn Pollard and Taylor Strub hosted a special assembly with their mentor JP Butler to share info on teen dating and kick off their TERA (Teens Ending Relationship Abuse) club.  They did a great job presenting to a full auditorium and discussing this important subject.  You can follow what is happening or get involved with this group here:

RACHEL'S CHALLENGE

Little Dresses For Africa 

Allison Howlett and Victoria Kline hosted a Little Dresses for Africa dressmaking party on Saturday, March 1st where they were able to make over 50 dresses.  Join them again on Saturday, March 8th at Silver Creek HS from 12-4 for another round of making these simple dresses out of pillowcases for young ladies in Africa!

Doug Palmer's LEAD Conference will be held Saturday, March 12th 6pm at SCHS. This TEDx like conference is $10 and will feature some amazing speakers on the topic of leadership.
