THE INNOVATION AND THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION SUMMIT TOUR 
JUNE 2015

Explore how culture, history and politics impact education systems throughout Europe.   We will discover the unique challenges that each country faces and the innovations being developed to change the future of education.  

Summary  

Join other students in Davos, Switzerland for a two-day leadership conference.  You will hear from Sir Ken Robinson, one of the world's foremost thought leaders on creativity in education, attend expert-led workshops and get a chance to creatively solve a pressing issues in global education.

Help "A Woman's Work" with the face painting booth and the fishbowl game.   Five Volunteers needed from 6:00-8:30 and 8:30-10.   Sign up on Ms. Adams office door in the new College and Career Center at SCHS.

RETREAT TIME!!!

IT IS RETREAT TIME!!!!  

I hope you have had a great summer!  I am looking forward to a wonderful year.  The retreat is right around the corner!  I know many of you have emailed me questions- hopefully this info will help, and I am back in town and will be able to access my email for any questions and concerns. 
Here is more info:  

YMCA at WINTER PARK 



Registration- Wednesday, August 6th from 9-10am at SCHS.     

You can complete paperwork,  and make payments (total retreat cost is $100- many of you paid in full or paid $50 deposit.)  IF you have any medical issues please be prepared to visit with CINDI LINDSEY, our SCHS health clerk to make sure we have all the info we need. 

The school is NOT open due to construction- we do NOT have access due to building permits etc...  THERE WILL BE NO RESTROOM OPEN prior to boarding the bus.  Please plan accordingly.  

BRING A SACK LUNCH!!! We will eat when we arrive in Winter park.  

PACK LIGHT!  We are gone ONE NIGHT and the bus has limited storage areas.  You do not need pillows, blankets, towels, all these items are provided by the YMCA. 
Suggested packing list: 
  • GREAT ATTITUDE!!! 
  • change of clothes 
  • pajamas 
  • personal bathroom needs (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc) 
  • sweatshirt for evening 
  • small flashlight 
  • rain poncho (just in case!) 
  • sun screen / hat / water bottle 
  • shoes to hike in (not flip flops) 
  • medications need to be checked in with Ms. Lindsey  (health clerk)
  • Be careful with your electronics, phone etc. It is your responsibility to take care of things and SCHS is not responsible for loss.  
We return to SCHS on THURSDAY AUG 7th around 7pm.   We will call as we get closer so you can be in the parking lot to  pick up.

Spring has Sprung in SCLA!

What a great evening with our SCLA incoming 9th graders at the Induction Ceremony this week!
A big thank you to our Ambassadors for all their hard work, and to our administration, Mr. Finnestead and Ms. Norris for their support.  We look forward to having the class of 2018 join us in the fall!  Please complete your retreat paperwork ASAP and drop off at SCHS in the main office. We have additional copies if needed.

If you are purchasing items from the PRIDE PACK, please drop off the order form at SCHS in the main office.  We will put the order in early next week.  When items arrive, we will call you so you can pick up at SCHS.  We hope to have everything back mid-May.

Get involved THIS WEEKEND!!  

SCLA 11 and the SCHS Athletic Department are hosting the 2nd Annual Day of Champions for SVVSD Special needs students on Saturday, April 26.  Opening Ceremonies begin at 9:30 in the large Gym.  This event is FREE and open to the public. Come and support these great students!!

LIFT OFF AVIATION DAY! 
Jamie Kirkland's SCLA Senior Capstone Project is this Saturday, April 26th from 9-12 at SCHS in the Commons.   Come learn more about aviation, win cool prizes and do some great hands-on activities.  This event is FREE and open to the public! Join SCLA Senior Jackie Reh as she hosts  her Senior Capstone Project- GEMS CAMP-
Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science

~Get behind the scenes of the chemicals in makeup with a chemical engineer!

~Get hands on with DNA electrophoresis gel and
microscopes with a biologist.

~Experiment with small robots, sensors and
magnets from Magnelab and Modular Robotics!

~No prior knowledge needed of these subjects to participate.

~Sign up today and join other middle school girls for a one day opportunity of engineering exploration.

 For Joey Fischer's Senior Capstone Project, he is hosting a FACE Concert that will benefit the MockingBird Foundation. The MockingBird Foundation is a non- for profit that provides funding for music education for children. Face, the well known acapella group will be headlining the event. Other performers include talented Silver Creek Students.

Silver Creek Leadership Summit 

SUMMIT HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED NEXT FALL.  




Applications are OPEN 
to apply to be an AMBASSADOR for 2014-2015!  

You may apply for ambassadors if you are a current 9th, 10th or 11th grader in good SCLA standing, and have a GPA 3.0 or over. 

This year you must have:

Teacher recommendation form signed 
Prepare a two minute presentation on SCLA for the interview portion

Interview/Presentation- April 8.9, and 10 after school

SCLA 12 Capstone Project Updates: 

 Unity in the Community 
Maddie Toretto has been working with the Longmont Chamber of Commerce all year for her Capstone Project.  She helped organize Unity and it was a great success last night! The evening even included a Shoutout for SCLA from  Lt. Governor Joe Garcia!   Thank you for all of you who volunteered! 



CHINESE NEW YEAR  

Chinese New Year was a big success! Shout out to Alex Bush and Nico Rembert for all their hard work to help host this event.  Over 1300 people attended and a great time was had by all.

TERA CLUB
Taylor Strub, JP Butler and RaeAnn Pollard 

RaeAnn Pollard and Taylor Strub hosted a special assembly with their mentor JP Butler to share info on teen dating and kick off their TERA (Teens Ending Relationship Abuse) club.  They did a great job presenting to a full auditorium and discussing this important subject.  You can follow what is happening or get involved with this group here:

RACHEL'S CHALLENGE

Little Dresses For Africa 

Allison Howlett and Victoria Kline hosted a Little Dresses for Africa dressmaking party on Saturday, March 1st where they were able to make over 50 dresses.  Join them again on Saturday, March 8th at Silver Creek HS from 12-4 for another round of making these simple dresses out of pillowcases for young ladies in Africa!

Doug Palmer's LEAD Conference will be held Saturday, March 12th 6pm at SCHS. This TEDx like conference is $10 and will feature some amazing speakers on the topic of leadership. This event is open to the public and will be a great motivational evening, networking event and time to recharge your batteries and think about your own leadership abilities.
