This week in SCLA / MLK Day

CREEK WEEK has been a great success!  Thanks to all who have participated in getting the word out to 8th graders about attending Silver Creek HS in the fall!  We had around 280 8th graders at SCHS today taking a tour from our SCLA Ambassadors group and enjoying a movie put together by Ms. Olson.

You can watch the video here:  SCHS Freshman video 2013

We will have COURSE INFORMATION NIGHT on Wed. Jan 23 from 6:30-8 at SCHS.  If you know of 8th graders coming to SCHS or still trying to decide, please remind them of this meeting!

SCLA gives Terri Ward inaugural Lifetime Leadership Award
On Tuesday, January 15th at halftime of the SCHS/Niwot girls basketball game SCLA was pleased to award Terri Ward, longtime SVVSD teacher and coach the Lifetime Leadership Award.  Terri is currently mentoring two SCLA seniors, Valarie Allman and Anthony Emberley with their capstone project of soles4souls.  Terri has been a wonderful example of our BIG SIX leadership skills and we were very pleased to have her as the first ever recipient of this award.   The next award will be given in January of 2014 with nominations beginning in  September of 2013.

TRAVEL UPDATE
International travel is not an "official" part of SCLA.  However, we offer OPTIONAL trips to enhance your leadership experience during the four years of SCLA.

Summer of 2014
Nicaragua

We are finding with our graduating seniors that SCLA is really setting them apart from the competition as they apply for college.  When so many students have great grades, volunteer work, extra-curricular activities, what is the one component that sets them apart?  LEADERSHIP.   With SCLA, leadership is not just a word.  It is who we are and what we do.

2014 Nicaragua trip will be the experience of a life-time.

Info on Nicaragua
  • Get your hands dirty!  Build a school in a small village.
  • You will have the chance to use your Spanish skills or take  immersion lessons in Spanish.
  • End your evening with daily LEADERSHIP discussions with local leaders.
  • Play with local children joining in games of soccer or baseball
  • Visit a turtle hatching project and take in the amazing wildlife
